Founder & Director
Our Founder, Coach Derrick Nguyen, is a player development specialist and game strategist dedicated to building complete athletes on and off the court. With over a decade of coaching experience at Caroline Davis Intermediate School and Oak Grove High School, Derrick has developed a proven system that blends skill development, basketball IQ, and mindset training.
He is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and a Licensed Skills Coach with Pure Sweat Basketball, where he has trained alongside and learned from some of the game’s best, including Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Zach LaVine, Tyrese Haliburton, and Tyrese Maxey.
Coach Derrick’s training philosophy is built on the L.E.A.D. Standards—Leadership, Effort, Attitude, and Discipline—which serve as the foundation for every athlete in the Showtime Basketball program. His approach goes beyond drills, focusing on teaching players how to think the game, compete with confidence, and apply their skills in real game situations.
As the Founder of Showtime Basketball in San Jose, Derrick has created a year-round development system designed to guide athletes from beginner fundamentals to high school, collegiate, and beyond. Through structured programming, small group training, and game-based development, Showtime Basketball is committed to helping players maximize their potential and become impactful leaders both on and off the court.
